February 2013 First Friday – Daniel Govar
For my First Friday image I knew I wanted to do a Dragon piece. It had been a while and I’ve been working on a story for a while now that has some of the winged creatures, but that I haven’t had the opportunity to share. As is often the case, I tend to start pieces listening to music, and in this case the song helped shape the story the image was telling – in this case, about a crew of skybound ivory hunters.
Additionally, I wanted this piece to be mostly traditional. Only about 1/3 was done digitally, and all color work.
I call this one “Seven Devils”.

Stunning work, Daniel. I really love how you do dragons. I’m also really loving the cloudscape back behind them, really nice stuff. I’d love to do a fantasy book with some visuals like this some day.
Very cool! I love the saddle designs.
Yay!
This is fantastic, Daniel!
Breaking the frame really helps sell the sense of immersion.
