Jarreau Wimberly is a freelance illustrator. The majority of his work is in the fantasy and sci fi genres (World of Warcraft, A Game of Thrones, and Magic: The Gathering), some of his more notable projects included doing the Package art for the 25th anniversary G.I. Joe toys, and illustration work used in the promotion of the 2nd Hulk film.
The following is an interview conducted between Outland Collective (OC) and the featured artist in June 2012.
OC. Did you attend college? If so, where did you go?
JW. I attended the University of the Art Philadelphia. There I received my BFA in Illustration.
OC. Where or what do you draw inspiration from?
JW. I draw most of my inspiration from Movies and Animation. In particular the work of Ridley Scott. Especially when he collaborates with great cinematographers like John Mathieson. The animators that constantly amaze me tend to all work in Japan. Guys like Yutaka Nakamura, Masahiro Ando, Ryo Chimo, Takeshi Koike…this list could go on forever.
OC. What projects are you working on currently? Where can we find it?
JW. Currently I’m working on a graphic novel called 7 Percent. Its a huge sci fi action thriller. It should be released in early 2013.
OC. Is there a particular piece of artwork you are especially proud of?
JW. That’s a hard question to answer…I usually feel the most proud of the work that I’m doing at the moment and right now that’s 7 Percent.
